Statement from The Lord Mayor of Westminster on the Platinum Jubilee

Published: 31 May 2022

Statement from The Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Hamza Taouzzale, marking the Platinum Jubilee:

On behalf of the People and City of Westminster, I would like to pay a heartfelt tribute to Her Majesty the Queen in this her Platinum Jubilee year.

Throughout her reign, she has been a positive role model for our country, a constant in the lives of generations of Britons, and an emblem of strength and unity.

She is, of course, Westminster’s most famous and, at 96 years old, one of our most longstanding residents. She was born at 17 Bruton Street, in Mayfair, and even today continues to reside at Buckingham Palace, in St James’s.

For over 70 years she has been, and continues to be, a source of wisdom to another of our city’s best-known residents, the 14 occupiers of 10 Downing Street.

But her influence and majesty go far beyond these shores.

Her long service and dedication is admired and respected by people from all over the globe.

In times of joy and in grief, our head of state has maintained a dignity and fortitude that other world leaders have sought to replicate.

So, as we celebrate this momentous occasion, may I on behalf of our city, wish Her Majesty a happy and joyous Platinum Jubilee year.
