Remembering Grenfell - Statement from the Leader of the Council

Published: 14 June 2022

Statement from Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Adam Hug, on the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy:

“Five years on, the pain and horror of the Grenfell Tower tragedy remain as strong as ever. The individual stories of survivors shocked the world, and threw a focus on deep-seated inequalities in social housing that shamed the nation. I will attend the memorial service at the base of Grenfell Tower today to show the thoughts of all at Westminster City Council are with the survivors and their families. The community connections between North Kensington and North Westminster are close ones and a number of our residents lost family members and friends in the tragedy.

Today should also be the cue for us to redouble our efforts to ensure people are never again forced to live in substandard and dangerous accommodation. It shows the vital responsibly those in authority have to ensure people are kept safe and the ongoing need for transparency and accountability in public life.”
