Parsons North achieves Topping Out

Westminster City Council’s housing development at Parsons North achieves topping out, despite Covid-19 challenges

Westminster City Council celebrated the topping out of the Parsons North development in Little Venice today.

Despite real challenges caused by Covid-19, which has seen construction stalling across the UK, the contractor Osborne has now completed the highest point of Parsons North, an £35.5m development off the Edgware Road which will deliver 60 new much-needed new homes, including 19 affordable homes for local residents in Westminster.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on the supply chain and brought many challenges, including the need for a careful plan to be agreed with the Council to protect workers on site and reduce the spread of the virus through social distancing. Despite this, the project team at Westminster City Council and Osborne have worked effectively and swiftly to keep the site safe, operational and on track to be completed by 2021.

Cllr Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council said:

“I attended the ground-breaking ceremony for Parsons North nine months ago when the site was a hole in the ground, so it’s fantastic to see the progress that has been made in hitting this milestone, despite the huge upheaval from Covid-19.

“The team has worked extremely hard to keep on site and to continue building new homes which our residents desperately need. This development is a significant investment into Westminster and the construction industry, putting us at the forefront of London’s economic recovery.”

Parsons North will bring 60 new homes to the Hall Place Estate, as well as 54 parking spaces in a new basement carpark, and a communal garden. Along with works to improve the communal areas in nearby council-owned block Parsons House, a retail space along Edgware Road and wider public realm improvements will also form part of the project.

The council have set out an ambitious regeneration programme to deliver 2,000 new affordable homes by 2023, part of a £1 billion investment in regeneration across the city over the next five years. Parsons North is an example of one of many regeneration projects taking place which will make a lasting difference to the lives of everyone in Westminster.
