Westminster housing estates recognised for quality, green spaces
Three housing estates in Westminster have once again received a Green Flag Award in recognition of their quality, green spaces.
Churchill Gardens, Lillington and Longmoore Garden Estate in Pimlico and Lisson Green in Marylebone, have all retained their Green Flag status for another year.
Lillington and Longmoore Garden Estate have received its 15th award in a row, while Churchill Gardens received the award for the ninth time and Lisson Green for the sixth time.
A huge amount of work is constantly carried out by our housing teams, estate services teams and grounds maintenance contractor Continental Landscapes to maintain the spaces and to continue to provide beautiful, green spaces for communities in Westminster.
As well as our housing estate Green Flags, Westminster also has another 26 Green Flag accredited public spaces and quality parks across the city.
Cllr David Harvey, Westminster Council Cabinet Member for Housing Services, said:
I’m delighted that our housing estates have been recognised for their well-managed, green spaces once again by receiving the Green Flag Award.
Quality, green spaces are vital to the wellbeing of our residents and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to maintain them during such a challenging time.
Darlene, resident of Lillington and Longmoore Garden Estate, said:
I think it’s amazing to have retained the Green Flag. The gardeners have worked extremely hard this year to improve the environment for all of us. It’s particularly great for the children, they have been able to do some pond dipping and get to see different wildlife in the gardens.
Paul from Continental Landscapes, said:
We have been working hard with the residents to enhance the appearance of the estate. We have also been trying to educate the residents on sustainability and recycling which can improve the estate.
The Green Flag Award scheme is rub by Keep Britain Tidy and assesses the quality of public parks and green spaces, as well as recognising their diversity and value to the local community. The park, garden or green space is judged against criteria which ranges from sustainability, conservation to marketing.
