Don’t fall victim to 'workman' scams

Man using a smart phone

Recently, one of our housing residents was contacted on his mobile phone by a woman posing to be from Westminster tenants advice line asking for his personal and bank account details. She then asked him to take photographs of his front door, back door and all of the rooms inside his property and unfortunately, he did as he was requested.

We would like to remind our residents that we will never call and ask you for your bank account details and we ask that you are more vigilant than ever when somebody calls or knocks on your door.

If you are expecting a repair to your property, our contractor, Morgan Sindall, will send you a text message to confirm the appointment. When our repair contractor arrives at your property, they will show you their ID badge before entering your property.

We have seen an increase in workman scams across our estates since the start of the pandemic and urge all residents not to give details to someone they are unsure about, instead take their details and call our housing customer service team on 0800 358 3783 to check.

Thankfully, on this occasion the resident did not lose any money and the matter has been reported to the Police.
