Published: 24 September 2021

As part of the Councils’ statutory duty, Westminster City Council and Kensington & Chelsea were appointed to hold two ballots for businesses within their respective boroughs for the proposed Brompton Road Business Improvement District (BID) covering the Knightsbridge and Brompton Road area.

The BID footprint spans across the two local authority boundaries making this the 1st cross-borough BID for both boroughs and 2nd Nationally. This is the 1st BID for Kensington and Chelsea and 16th BID for Westminster.

Today it was announced that the proposed cross-borough BID had been successful in their respective ballots, 47 out of 52 votes with the majority of the business ratepayers in the proposed BID area who voted, voted in favour of the proposal, both by aggregate rateable value (99.42%) and numbers voting (90.38%).

The BID term for the Brompton Road will commence from 1 October 2021 until 31 September 2026. The BID ballot opened on 26th August 2021 and closed on 23 September 2021. The BID ballots were administered separately but took place simultaneously, the successful results were declared on 24 September 2021.

Welcoming the result, Cllr Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council, and a local ward member said

The Knightsbridge International Centre is a major draw for visitors and investors, providing jobs and boosting London’s economy.  We look forward to working with the new BID to help the area recover from COVID-19 and retain its position as a global destination.
