Apply to host a street party in Westminster to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Queen's Jubilee celebrations

Published: 17 March 2022

To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years on the throne, Westminster City Council is encouraging residents and community groups to apply to hold individual Platinum Jubilee street parties with their neighbours over the extended bank holiday weekend, from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

People who wish to host a street party can apply to the council for free, where normally there is a fee involved which has been waived for this occasion, and applications are open now until Thursday 21st April.

The council is also hosting a MyWestminster Big Jubilee Lunch community event at Paddington Rec on Sunday 5 June. This Big Jubilee Lunch event will see local communities come together to watch a screening of the Platinum Pageant at Paddington Rec and celebrate this historic milestone with free live music, face painting and Jubilee-specific arts and crafts. A ticketed lunch event is also being hosted for local groups as a thank you for all the good work they do in the community.

Cllr Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council,  said:

“We want as many people as possible to celebrate and honour Her Majesty’s wonderful service to the nation over the extended bank holiday weekend. Westminster is home to Buckingham Palace so there will be plenty going on in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, but we want to make  enable local events that residents can get involved with to mark this once in-a-lifetime event.

“We have the Big Jubilee Lunch event at Paddington Rec and we’re encouraging our residents to host their own street parties over the bank holiday weekend. We’re waiving the usual fees so that people can apply easily to host their own street parties, which we hope will be a fantastic way for our residents and local communities to come together and celebrate.”

More Westminster-focused events will be announced as and when they are confirmed over the coming months, including supporting the national Beacon Lighting initiative.

Other national events marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee milestone will be held throughout the year and over the extended bank holiday weekend in June, and most of the main national events will take place in the heart Westminster.
