CommunitySafe is a one-way communications platform to alert you of any serious incidents, emergencies or potential disruptions. CommunitySafe can't receive messages from its message recipients.
To receive SMS text and email is free. Accessing the website from your mobile phone or mobile device is also free but check with your network provider for your data plan limits. You can opt out of this service at any time.
The CommunitySafe service is owned by Westminster City Council and follows the specific guidelines under the Data Protection Act 1998. Therefore the service will not share or use your personal information for any purpose other than warning and informing you of incidents or events that may affect residents, businesses and visitors in the City of Westminster. The messages are sent by Westminster City Council's Contingency Planning Team, who work closely with the emergency services before, during and after incidents and emergencies.
CommunitySafe can't track who you are or where you are.
The CommunitySafe system works with your mobile phone network provider to send text messages and has no way of tracking where you are or finding out your identity.
Councils and the emergency services want to tell the residents, businesses and visitors when an emergency happens and where it's happened, so you can protect yourself from harm. The service is provided by Westminster City Council as part of our requirements under the Civil Contingencies Act (CCA) 2004 to warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency.
The messages won't tell you what to do. The messages will give information on where and when an incident, event or emergency has occurred. If an alert is sent with an image and your mobile device can't receive it, you will be sent a plain text message instead.
To stop receiving messages, log into CommunitySafe, click your profile button on the top left of the screen, remove your email and mobile number then save your profile. You can go back at any time to add these details to your profile.
If you no longer want to use CommunitySafe and receive notifications, you can request to have your account permanently deleted. Please keep in mind you won't be able to reactivate your account or retrieve anything you've added.

If you're not getting any messages, check your details by logging into your account on CommunitySafe and checking your profile in the top left of the screen. Make sure you have the correct information inserted in the 'Personal Information' tab.
