The Lord Mayor's blog - the Victoria Cross

We returned from Oslo late last Tuesday, and will be followed home by the Christmas tree which I helped to ‘cut down’ - destined for its switching on ceremony at Trafalgar Square on 7 December at 6pm. Make sure you come along!

A highlight last week was presiding at a ceremony in honour of local recipients of the Victoria Cross from the First World War.

This added to a varied week. I went to a concert in aid of Help Musicans UK at Westminster Cathedral. I also visited an exhibition at the Fitzrovia Gallery called The Ward, featuring patients with AIDS at the Middlesex Hospital in the 1980s.

Later, I hosted a reception for the council’s winners of London in Bloom, and went to the annual Westminster Synagogue Scrolls Service. I also joined Den Norske Club’s 130th anniversay Christmas dinner.
