Two special music events provided much focus recently.
On the day of GF Handel’s birthday, 23 February, I visited Handel House Museum on Brook Street to mark the launch of their Hallelujah Project fundraising drive, which will see the charity take over full occupancy of the building to recreate the whole house as it was when Handel first moved into his Westminster home in 1723. Among the hosts was Simon Weil, chairman of Handel House, who wore period costume for the occasion.
Later the same day I was honoured to host the Lord Mayor’s Gala Concert held at Wigmore Hall, featuring several top-flight musicians, including pianist Graham Johnson and singers Ailish Tynan, Anna Huntley and Stephan Loge. The sell-out concert included a new work by young British composer Joseph Phibbs and helped to raise much-needed funds for my mayoral charities, Age UK Westminster and the Social Mobility Foundation.
