The Lord Mayor's blog - a Christmas tree from Norway

I am currently in Norway, where I shall be joined by the Mayor of Oslo to ‘cut down’ the annual Christmas tree. The tree is a national gift from the people of Norway which has been sent to Westminster every year since 1947.

I am a guest of the British Ambassador for an official dinner, and will attend lunch at Oslo City Hall, to mark the close relationship between Britain and Norway since the Second World War. (The tree arrives in time to be erected in Trafalgar Square for its official launch on Thursday 7 December at 6pm.)

Last week, I attended the annual banquet at Guildhall in the City as guest of the new Lord Mayor of London. I hosted the Westminster Senior Citizens’ Forum AGM, and attended Westminster Citizens’ Advice Bureau Service AGM to present awards to some of their volunteers.

I was present for the switching on of Christmas lights at Regent Street and also Marylebone High Street - where I was joined on stage by national treasure Dame Barbara Windsor, who is also a local resident.

I was also a guest at a concert at Wigmore Hall featuring renown violinist Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Don't forget to follow me on twitter. Have a great week!
