Over 120 unpaid carers from across the City of Westminster were welcomed to the Amba Hotel in Marble Arch on October 31 2016 to recognise their dedication and outstanding contribution to the local community.
Now in its 4th year, the Westminster Carer Awards saw 27 unpaid carers celebrated across 11 categories including unpaid carer of someone with mental health needs, parent carer, unpaid carer of more than one person and young carer of the year.
Inspirational nominations were received from over 130 people and the winners received their awards from Cllr Steve Summers, Lord Mayor of Westminster.
Sue Sel, winner of the unpaid carer of someone with mental health needs award, said: “It was very nice to be recognised. I have been caring for my daughter for 20 years and have never had anything like this before so it’s a real honour.”
Guests enjoyed a meal and drinks and were entertained by the West End Kids performers and The Blend Choir.
Host for the evening, Cllr Rachael Robathan added: “Unpaid carers are the unsung heroes of our communities. So many carers don’t think that what they do is very special but it has been clear from the moving and emotional nominations we receive that they make an incredible difference.
“I would like to congratulate all the winners and everyone who was nominated.”
