Apply for a pavement licence

Apply for a licence to place removable furniture over certain highways next to premises, for the sale of food and drink.

Apply

Pavement Licence Applications, new and renewals:
The Business and Planning Act 2020 (Pavement Licences) (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 have been extended to 30 September 2024. New and renewal applications are now open.

A pavement licence costs £100.

Apply for a new licence or renew an existing issued licence

The renewal option is available to premises with an existing issued licence, and would like to renew on the exact terms of their pavement licence.

If you have had a licence previously that has expired, need to make changes to your application or have not had a pavement licence, then you must submit a new application.

Applications will be decided within 14 days of receipt if they meet the requirements.

Pavement licences can be granted for at least three months, but the council will not grant a licence for more than six months. If an application is made within six months of 30 September 2024, the council cannot grant a pavement licence beyond or a period less than 3 months of 30 September 2024.
