Inspiring week for new generation of entrepreneurs underway

Mon, 12/11/2018

Our next generation of entrepreneurs have the chance to pitch ideas to inspiring business leaders this week at the fourth Westminster Enterprise Week.

The annual event, starting today (12-18 November 2018), is a Westminster City Council initiative that supports entrepreneurial talent by connecting local students to the world-class enterprise support and networks on their doorstep. It is run as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Cllr David Harvey, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Education and Community, said: “Lots of young people dream about starting a business of their own, and Westminster Enterprise Week provides a great opportunity to nurture those ambitions. It’s part of our continued commitment to support all levels of entrepreneurship in the city.

“We will always encourage young people to work hard to turn their ideas into reality, and support them on their way to becoming business leaders.”

Open to all young people aged 16 to 24 who are aiming to get their big break in the business world, the week features guest speaker events, interactive workshops and collaborative challenges. There are more employers involved than ever before from a wide variety of sectors.

Around 1,500 young people will be involved in the week’s many events, including hundreds of children from schools across the borough attending talks.

Those involved with Westminster Enterprise Week can:

• Boost CVs with experience and activities organised by well-established companies.

• Participate in opportunities that provide practical advice about real-life scenarios.

• Build confidence and experience in the enterprise environment that goes beyond the business world.

The week features an event at which 80 young people will pitch ideas for a new under-18 business venture to the founders of Pergola Paddington and a Women in Enterprise panel session where female entrepreneurs will talk about their careers and answer questions.
