Personal licences

How to apply for a personal licence.

You or a member of your staff must hold a personal licence if you sell alcohol from licensed premises so that every sale or supply of alcohol is authorised by a licence holder. 

You must apply for a personal licence in the borough where you live and not where you work unless they are the same. 

You must be 18 years or older and hold a licensing qualification such as the Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) Level 2. 

You don’t need a personal licence to sell alcohol under a temporary events notice.

How to apply

You can only apply via email. We no longer accept applications by post. To apply, please complete the two forms below:

Applications must also include:

Email the completed forms, documents, and photos to [email protected].

We will then email you an online payment link with a reference number to pay the £37 fee.

What happens next

You can view the status of your application or look up an existing license on the licensing register.

Changing details on a personal licence

​To request an updated licence with your changed details, there is a £10.50 fee. Please pay this fee online. Go to Premises licence (LA2003) and enter your personal licence number as the reference.  

Once you have paid, please email a copy of the receipt for the payment, the details of the changes, and your personal licence number to [email protected]

You must return your original licence to us by post. If you have lost it, please let us know when you email us.
