Ways to pay your rent
Rent can be paid by Direct Debit, standing order, over the phone or online.
Pay by Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the easiest and most convenient way to pay, for residents who have a bank or building society current account. Monthly Direct Debits can be set up for:
- Housing rent and charges (select the day of the month you would like your Direct Debit payment to be collected from your account)
- Garages, parking bays and sheds (select the day of the month you would like your Direct Debit payment to be collected from your account)
Tenants can download a form to set up a Direct Debit or obtain a form from their area office. Once completed please return the form to your local area service centre.
Pay online
Payments can be made securely online with a payment reference number and bank card. Payments made before 6pm on a working day will normally show on the rent account the following working day. Rent accounts are updated with rent due for the current week on a Monday or a Tuesday after a Monday Public Holiday.
If you are paying your rent on a Monday or a Tuesday immediately after a Public Holiday please add one week’s rent on to the balance stated.
Pay by standing order
Setting up a standing order is a simple way of paying rent for tenants with a bank account or a building society account. Download a standing order form, complete it and send it to your bank. If the rent changes, do advise the bank or building society.
Pay by debit or credit card
Westminster City Council have looked at a number of ways to make it easier for you to pay.
You can also pay online or over the phone to a member of staff at any area service centre. Pay over the telephone Payments can be made at any time by using our automated voice response system on 0203 77 22 602 (please choose option 3). Calls to this service are charged at the local rate.
This is an automated service and needs to be made from a touch tone phone with the rent reference number and payment details to hand. Payments made before 5pm on a working day will appear on the rent account the same day. Payments made after 5pm will appear the following working day.
Pay by rent payment card
A rent payment card holds a tenants rent reference number and the council's banking details. The rent payment card can be used to pay rent at any Post Office.
Please note that payments via rent payment cards can take up to 5 working days to clear, therefore we recommend using the alternative payment methods such as setting up a direct debit.
