Heroes’ Return: London

Mon, 17/10/2016

This summer, both Team GB and ParalympicsGB performed brilliantly in Rio. Team GB amassed 67 medals, their biggest haul in 108 years.

ParalympicsGB broke 49 Paralympic and 27 world records on their way to winning 147 medals. Both came second in their respective medal tables, too. In recognition of the amazing achievement The GLA have organised a special celebration in Team GBs’ honour, where Olympic heroes will be cheered on by crowds in Trafalgar Square tomorrow/today. Tuesday 18 October 1:00pm to 2.30pm

To ensure people enjoy the event safety a number of roads in the surrounding area will be closed in the afternoon.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said: “The exploits of our Olympians and Paralympians have thrilled the nation and I am delighted to confirm that we are arranging a real heroes’ return in the capital on October 18. It will be an opportunity to thank them, to celebrate their superhuman efforts and to inspire our next generation of athletes to follow in their path.”

If you’re feeling inspired by Team GB’s athletes there are loads of ways to get involved in sport in Westminster including signing up for classes, volunteering, sports for disabled people and much more.
