Healthier Catering Commitment

The Healthier Catering Commitment is a London wide scheme to encourage and support food businesses to adopt healthier practices, and offer healthier meal options. The scheme operates across 24 London boroughs and is supported by the Mayor of London.


1. Why sign up?

There are over 5000 food business in Westminster - make yours stand out with a Healthier Catering Commitment.

Benefits include:

  • free nutrition support and training from a registered nutritionist
  • 10% discount from JJ Food Service for 3 months
  • Healthier Catering Commitment window sticker and certificate to display in your business
  • business promotion and advertising through social media
  • invitation to Westminster’s Healthier Catering Commitment awards ceremony

2. Criteria

To be an approved Healthier Catering Commitment premises, you must meet a minimum of 8 criteria, including 4 essential criteria.

There are an additional 3 essential criteria for those who fry food.

This year we've introduced a silver and gold standard which includes an extra 10 criteria on items such as pricing promotion and environmental sustainability.

Lena’s café is a family run business located on Praed street opposite St Mary’s Hospital. Lena’s café achieved the prestigious Healthier Catering Commitment Gold award this month for its commitment to providing healthy food options to its customers.  

6. Award winners 2019

A huge congratulations to our Healthier Catering Commitment businesses of 2019.

On Wednesday 1 May Westminster City Council celebrated food businesses that have made their meals healthier, at an awards ceremony in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour.

Businesses from across Westminster took part in the Healthy Catering Commitment, working with Nutritionists and Environmental Heath Officers to make small changes to the way they prepare and cook their food, to make a big difference to the health of their customers.

Over 80 businesses in Westminster have taken part in the scheme over the past 5 years.
