The future of cycling in Westminster

Wed, 03/12/2014

We are making it safer and easier to cycle in Westminster. Our cycling strategy, launched this week, sets out how we are working with our partners such as Transport for London and London Greater Authority to create safer streets and encourage more people to travel by bike.

The strategy follows a public consultation earlier this year which received 1,936 responses and we have taken these comments on board to create the final strategy. Over the next 3 years we will be further improving conditions for cyclists including:

  • delivery of a 'Central London Cycle Grid' (including a core network by 2016)
  • recommended quiet cycle routes
  • improvement of junctions that are dangerous for cyclists
  • free cycle training to anyone living, working or studying within Westminster
  • free safety training for fleet drivers
  • safety campaigns
  • more bike parking facilities
