Free school meals

Find out how to apply for free school meals for children that attend school in Westminster.

Reception year 1 and year 2

Are infant school children eligible for free school meals?

All children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 are entitled to free school meals - this is known as Universal Infant Free School Meals. If your child is in reception, Year 1 or 2 and you receive one of the qualifying benefits, you should still make an application for free school meals as the school your child attends will receive extra funding.

Please note: you will only need to apply once using the same form if you have more than one child.

We want to make sure your child/children receive the best education and support we can provide.

Extra funding for your child’s school

Schools claim additional funding from the government, known as ‘Pupil Premium’ for every child whose parent or carer receives one of the qualifying benefits.

This additional money is used to ensure that children achieve academically and have full access to educational and cultural activities. It is worth over £1,000 per pupil for the school your child attends.

Your child/children can benefit from things such as: after school activities, summer clubs and extra help with reading.

For further information, please ask at your child’s school.
