Statements of SEN are being replaced with a jointly assessed Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, which will cover children and young people from birth to the age of 25.
Joint assessment will ensure that parents and young people only ‘tell their story’ once and that assessment focuses on the outcomes that children and young people will achieve as well as identifying the support needed to do this.
The Children and Families Act makes sure that families are at the centre of the assessment and planning process and that those assessments are co-produced with families or with young people themselves. Here is a helpful guide to the impact of the new legislation has been produced by the government.
