Ebury Bridge Estate Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO)

More information about the compulsory purchase order for the regeneration of the Ebury Bridge Estate.

We are undertaking the comprehensive regeneration of the Ebury Bridge Estate. This will include the provision of a residential-led mixed use development, the demolition of existing buildings and the erection of new buildings to provide around 780 mixed-tenure residential units and ancillary residential facilities, community and business floorspace, the provision of new publicly accessible open space, new pedestrian and vehicle routes, accesses and amenity areas, servicing and other associated works.

To achieve the implementation of this regeneration scheme, we made a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) on 7 January 2022 that affects a number of properties and businesses across the Ebury Bridge estate.

General Vesting Declaration (GVD)

A General Vesting Declaration (GVD) is a legal document which is used to acquire land or interests in land with the powers in a confirmed Compulsory Purchase Order.

After a specified period, with a minimum of 3 months, ownership of the land or interests in the land included in the GVD will automatically transfer to the Council. A number of GVDs have now been made and served by the Council. Copies of the GVDs that have been made as part of the Ebury Bridge CPO can be found here:

GVD notices are related to the Ebury Bridge Estate and are available for viewing upon request either at the Ebury Bridge Regeneration Base, 15-19 Ebury Bridge Road or at Westminster City Hall, 64 Victoria Street.

What is a Compulsory Purchase Order and how it affects your property?

  • Compulsory purchase is a legal mechanism by which certain bodies (known as ‘acquiring authorities’) Westminster City Council in this case, can acquire land.
  • The order authorises the City of Westminster to purchase compulsorily the land described for the purposes of facilitating the carrying out of development, re-development or improvement on or in relation to the land.
