Coronavirus information for schools and nurseries

Early years settings, schools, colleges and universities will remain open between 5 November and 2 December.  It is very important for children and young people that they attend, to support their learning, wellbeing and wider development.  Schools have ensured that they are able to provide education in a safe environment, in line with their individual risk assessments.

We appreciate that this is a challenging time for families and that some parents and guardians have understandable concerns about sending their children to school. We encourage parents and guardians to have a conversation with their child’s school where a member of staff will be able to discuss their approach and address any specific concerns.

School Streets

All routes to school are being assessed by the council in line with government guidance.

Temporary ‘School Streets’ are now in place in the city. This involves localised improvements to increase pedestrian space at schools across Westminster, as an emergency measure from the 1 June until December 2020.

School Streets are pedestrian and cycle zones outside the school main entrance usually in operation for up to an hour and a half in the morning and afternoon (to complement the school drop-off and collection times), Monday to Friday term-time only.

Vehicle movements will be reduced during the operating times of a School Street so that school children, their parents and carers and other visitors will have more space to walk, cycle and scooter, whilst social distancing.

The times are specific to each schools’ location with potential staggered start and finish times.

The following schools have been assessed and selected for a School Street to be in place from 1 June 2020 to end of term December 2020:
