Find out about changes to parking, road closures, and timings for this year's Chinese New Year Celebrations
The annual Chinese New Year celebrations, organised by The London Chinatown Chinese Association, will return in 2025, to mark the ‘Year of the Wood Snake’. These are the largest Lunar and Chinese New Year celebrations outside of Asia.
This year's event will take place on Sunday 2 February 2025 across Chinatown and the West End including activities in Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, and a parade running from Duncannon Street, via Charing Cross Road to Shaftesbury Avenue.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Adam Hug has said:
Looking forward to the fantastic events in Trafalgar Square and across Chinatown as celebrations for get under way, wishing everyone across Westminster a healthy and prosperous Year of the Wood Snake.
Road closures will be in place as per the map below on Sunday 2 February Within the road closure areas parking bay suspensions will be in place, signage will be up at the affected locations.
Timings on the day
- Between 5am and 8am, main road closures implemented
- 10am, parade begins
- Midday, parade ends and main stage programme starts on Trafalgar Square
- 6pm, event finishes in Trafalgar Square
- 8pm, roads re-open
