Children, Environment and Leisure Committee

The Policy and Scrutiny Committee specifically scrutinises work covered under the remit of the Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Young People and the Cabinet Member for Environment, Sports and Community.

They examine executive decisions, monitor performance and develop and review policy on the council’s education function for children and young people, including the opportunities for education, training and learning outside the school environment and pre-school learning.

The portfolio includes Building Schools for the Future and Primary Capital Programme, Children’s Health and Commissioning, Youth Offending, Looked After Children and Care Leavers, and more. It also includes the Environment portfolio which covers Street Cleansing, Waste and Recycling. View more details.

Committee duties

This Committee has an remit which includes education, therefore the council has a duty to ensure that this committee includes in its membership the following representatives:

  • one Church of England diocese representative
  • one Roman Catholic diocese representative
  • two parent governor representatives
  • two headteachers from local schools or academies (non-voting members)
