Due to the high volume of applications we have received for round 2 of the ARG scheme in recent weeks, the majority of the funding pot has been committed and we will therefore be closing round 2 of the scheme on Tuesday 27 April 2021. If you believe your business is eligible to apply for the ARG scheme, and you have not yet had a chance to submit an application, we would encourage you to do so as soon as possible to avoid missing out on the scheme.
Which support grants are my business eligible for?
Eligibility for the Business Support grants is dependent on whether your business is a ratepayer (receives a business rate bill from the council) or a non-ratepayer (your business pays rent to your landlord which includes an element for business rates).
- Closed Grant Schemes
All of the government grant schemes for periods prior to the January National Lockdown (I.e. up to 4 January 2021) closed for applications on 31 March 2021. If your business made an application for one of the closed grant periods just before 31 March 2021, the Council will determine your application by 30 April 2021.
- Open Grant Schemes
There are only two grant schemes that remain open for ratepayers:
- LRSG Closed Addendum Grant (for the period from 5 January 2021)
This grant scheme covers the period from 5 January 2021 to 31 March 2021. The Council is up to date with these grant payments, having paid all of the businesses eligible for this grant, However, if your main business use is within the hospitality, accommodation or leisure sectors or is within non-essential retail and your business was “trading” (see note below) on the eligibility date of 5 January, please e-mail the Council using the e-mail address on your business rate bill (please put the word “Grant” and your customer number in the e-mail subject line).
- Restart Grants
The government has recently announced a new grant scheme to take effect from 1 April 2021. The scheme provides one-off grant payments to support businesses in the same business sectors as shown above that were trading on 1 April 2021 (see note below).
The level of grant will be dependent on the rateable value of your property and whether your main business use is either:
- non-essential retail
- within hospitality, accommodation, leisure or personal care
Further details can be found by using the grant calculator shown below.
Please note that the Council has the data it needs to make the new Restart grants to all eligible businesses that have previously been paid a business support grant. There is therefore no need to contact the City Council or to make a new application.
The Council is currently awaiting some further information from central government regarding the new scheme, but we anticipate being able to make the Restart grant payments around mid / late April.
If you have not previously received a business support grant and believe that your business may be eligible for this grant (e.g. if you have recently commencing occupation of a property), please e-mail the Council using the e-mail address that is shown on your business rate bill (please put the word “grant” and your customer reference number in the e-mail subject line)
Please note: the government has provided the following indicators to assist local authorities to determine if a business is “trading” (a business does not need to meet all of the indicators):
- The business has staff on furlough
- The business continues to trade on-line, via click & collect services etc
- The business is not in liquidation, dissolved, struck off , subject to a striking out notice
- The business is engaged in business activity, managing accounts , preparing for re-opening, planning and implementing COVID-19 safe measures.
The only grant available within the council for non-ratepayers is the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG). The grant scheme offers eligible Westminster businesses one off grants of £5000. The scheme is currently accepting applications and more information can be found via the link above and in our business e-newsletter. Sign up to our business e-newsletter.
Our eligibility criteria for the ARG scheme may change. If your business does not qualify under the current eligibility criteria, please continue to monitor our website and sign up to the business newsletter for potential future changes to the council’s criteria.
