Beware of Doorstep Criminal Callers

As part of national Rogue Trader Week, Trading Standards are urging consumers  to be vigilant of cold callers operating in Westminster. They pose as reputable tree surgeons, builders, roofers, or even sell fish or garden furniture.

Many of these are bogus traders who persuade victims to have unnecessary work done, provide a poor standard of work or supply goods that are misdescribed, overpriced or are not delivered.

In some instances these callers may be attempting distraction burglary, posing as trading standards officers, utility suppliers, Westminster Council staff or the police - all with plausible stories to get access to a home.

If you have concerns about someone knocking on your door or a neighbour’s then contact Trading Standards on 020 7641 1111, or if an emergency call the police on 999.

Westminster Council offers a free handyman service for residents over 60 or in receipt of a disability allowance to carry out minor repairs.
