The Armed Forces Covenant Grant gives financial support to local projects that strengthen the ties or the mutual understanding between members of the armed forces community and the wider community in which they live. It is organised and run by the Ministry of Defence on behalf of the government and funding is in place for the next 3 years. Bids for funding are channelled through the Westminster Armed Forces Covenant partnership.
The Covenant Fund has £10 million each year to support the armed forces by funding projects which address specific priorities.
This funding has been set aside for large and small projects each year. Funding of between £20,000 and £300,000 is available to individual projects. There are different eligibility rules and timescales for each of the 4 priorities for this year’s fund.
The money must be spent on projects that promote the welfare of members of the armed forces community (including serving members, reserves, cadets, veterans and their families) or promote closer ties or greater understanding between the military and civilian communities in Westminster.
The 4 priorities for funding this year include:
Creating a national single point of contact for information and advice for veterans.
Projects that support families of serving personnel who are experiencing a significant stressful life event.
Improving the experience of local armed forces communities to ensure they are not disadvantaged.
Projects that respond to the local needs of the armed forces community and improve recognition of the Armed Forces Covenant and which:
Applications can come from a range of organisations in the community including local authorities, charities, commercial organisations and community groups in Westminster.
