The City of Westminster is divided into 8 Controlled Parking Zones(CPZ), some of which also have sub-zones (see map below). These signs indicate the times when waiting restrictions within the zone are in force. The times may differ from zone to zone. Outside these times parking and loading/unloading on single yellow lines is permitted, unless otherwise stated on a separate nearby timeplate.
CPZ signs advising the hours of control for a particular zone are posted at the zone's entry points where controls change from the neighbouring zone.
Where will I see a CPZ sign?
CPZ signs are posted only at the point where a motorist enters a new zone with differing CPZ hours to its neighbouring zone.
Where will I not see a CPZ sign?
If there is no change to controls from the neighbouring zone, there is no necessity to display further signage. This also applies even if the neighbouring zone is not within the City of Westminster.
For example, no CPZ signs are located at the points of entry between zone E1 and G1 (and vice versa) as both zones have the same CPZ hours of control (8.30am-6,30pm Monday to Saturday).
What happens if I park in a CPZ when the restrictions are in force?
The times on the sign show when single yellow lines, meter bays, Pay & Display bays and Pay by Phone bays are enforced. If you park on a single yellow line within these times, or in a meter, pay & display or Pay by Phone bay without making payment, you may receive a parking ticket. Double yellow lines are enforced 24 hours a day, and some individual parking spaces, including resident bays and single yellow lines, may have their own timeplates indicating the hours of enforcement.
