Eco Vehicles

photo of an electric vehicle charging in a masterpark car parkWestminster City Council is committed to a cleaner environment.  Vehicles using gas, electricity, fuel cells and hybrid vehicles ("Eco Vehicles") are all entitled to certain parking concessions within Westminster. 

 

Where you can park for free and at a discount 

Electric vehicles (powered solely by electricity):

  • Free parking during controlled hours on Meter, Pay and Display and Pay by Phone bays throughout Westminster (up to the maximum stay limit). 
  • Registered holders of a Westminster Car Park Electric Vehicle Season Ticket receive a discount on parking charges for their electric vehicle in their chosen council car park. Free recharging points are also available in 13 of our 16 car parks. More information on the Westminster Car Park Electric Vehicle scheme.

Gas and hybrid vehicles:

  • No concessions in meter, Pay & Display, Pay by Phone bays or in Car Parks. This applies even if you have an Eco Mark sticker in your vehicle.   

Residents Only

Westminster residents with any type of Eco Vehicle (electric, gas, fuel cell, hybrid) qualify for a 100% discount on the normal price of a resident parking permit, subject to proof of certain qualifying criteria.  Find out more about resident parking permits.

Where you cannot park

  • in a suspended bay
  • at an 'out of order' parking meter
  • in a disabled parking bay
  • on double yellow lines at any time
  • on single yellow lines during the hours of control


Electric Vehicle charging bays

  • 2 posts at Berkeley Square
  • 2 posts at Wilton Street
  • 2 posts at Sutherland Avenue
  • 2 posts at Manchester Square
  • 2 posts at Spencer Street (Behind City Hall)
  • 1 post at Wellington Street
  • 1 post at Southampton Street

In order to use the charging points you must register to have an Eco-mark. You will then be issued with an electronic key to open the charging point. More information on charging bays.
