I don’t have a mobile phone and/or a debit/credit card?

There are Pay and Display bays handily located throughout the borough. Alternatively, you can use one of our Westminster City Council car parks where cash and card payments are also available.

We are in the process of investigating alternative options that will make it easier for customers who do not have a mobile phone and/or debit/credit card.

Why do you use a ‘0870’ number?

While our 0870 number is still live, we have also created an 0207 number, which is 020 7005 0055.

This will mean that calls to the Pay by Phone number will be included within most free minutes packages. Please contact your mobile phone service provider to get information on charges and free minutes package conditions as this varies between providers.

We will also be introducing a five digit short text number.

I have a Blackberry or another device with a QWERTY keyboard so how do I register for Pay by Phone?

Blackberry users and those with another device with a QWERTY keyboard can press the star button to take them directly to a Customer Service Agent.

We also strongly encourage customers with these devices to register online prior to using Pay by Phone parking for the first time.

What happens with my data?

The details that you enter to set up a Pay by Phone account are encrypted and stored on Verrus’ database.  They are used solely for the purposes of paying for parking and receiving essential updates about the service.

Your Pay by Phone parking account is protected by your PIN which needs to be entered any time you wish to makes changes to your account - therefore cannot be viewed or changed by any unauthorised persons.

What happens if I can’t get through to the Pay by Phone number?

In the unlikely event that you are unable to reach the Pay by Phone parking number, you can still Pay by Phone by sending a SMS to 079 5008 0201. Instructions on how to do this are on the Conditions of Use sign in every bay where Pay by Phone is available.

You can also pay for your parking at a handily located Pay and Display machine.

Please note that the Pay and Display machine must be located in the same parking zone that your vehicle is parked.

Is there a service charge?

There is no service charge when you use Pay by Phone.

There is also no difference between the parking charges at a Pay by Phone bay and a Pay and Display or meter bay.

What is a location number and where can I find it?

Every Pay by Phone Parking bay has a unique location number. These are indicated on the Department for Transport signs near the relevant parking bay, and on the Pay by Phone stickers on meters and Pay and Display machines.

Each location number is made up of four numbers. Please ensure that you check the location number before you pay for parking. The location number of the Conditions of Use sign is only an example.

How long can I park when I Pay by Phone?

As with meter and Pay and Display bays, there is a maximum time you are allowed to park when you pay by phone.  In all areas where Pay by Phone parking is currently available, the maximum stay limit is 4 hours per location number.  If you need to park for more than 4 hours, simply move your car to another Pay by Phone location or alternatively you can park in one of our Westminster City Council Car Parks.

I’ve paid for parking, but I haven’t received any confirmation?

If you haven’t received a confirmation text after 5 minutes, you should call the Pay by Phone number on 020 7005 0055 or 0870 428 4009.

If there is a record of payment, the system will recognise your number and you will be prompted to extend your parking session. If not, it will ask you for a location number to commence a parking session. Alternatively, you can opt to speak to a Customer Service Agent to confirm if your initial payment was made.

The delivery of SMS texts is dependent on your mobile phone network.  Delayed delivery times or non-delivery can occur when your network is experiencing problems.  Any SMS texts issued by our Pay by Phone parking system are sent immediately and are registered against your account at the time they were sent, therefore will be charged.

I want to challenge my Penalty Charge Notice, but I have no paper trail?

If you wish to provide evidence to support a PCN challenge, there is a record of your transactions on your online Pay by Phone account.
