Hundreds of randomly selected 'golden bays' in Westminster will offer free parking on Thursday 25 October 2007 to celebrate the Council's 500,000th Pay by Phone transaction and the further roll out of the scheme.
We have chosen 200 bays, which will be exempt from charges on Thursday between 0830 and 1830. These bays are located in some of the most desirable parking areas across the borough.
You will discover if you have picked a 'golden bay' when you attempt to pay using your mobile phone. After confirming your details and how long you choose to stay for, you will be notified that you will not be charged for your stay if you have parked in a 'golden bay'.
The lucky customer who made the 500,000th transaction will be given an XDA Orbit mobile phone, donated by the mobile company O2, as thanks for their usage of the service.
Pay by Phone customers also have two further reasons to celebrate. Pay by Phone has been extended to a further 800 bays across key areas such as Marylebone, Bayswater and Fitzrovia. As of Monday 22 October, we also listened to customer feedback and removed the service charge for setting up or extending a parking session. You will now only have to pay for your stay plus any optional reminder texts you choose.
