Abandoned Vehicles Removal Service
What is an Abandoned Vehicle?

We treat a vehicle as being abandoned if it has the following characteristics:

  • No road tax disc or a road tax disc that has expired for over a month
  • It is left on any land in the open air in such circumstances or for such a period that it may be reasonably assumed to be abandoned, or, if the vehicle had been brought to the piece of land for the purpose of abandonment
How do I report an abandoned vehicle?

If you have a vehicle in your street that has the above characteristics, you can contact the Environmental Action Line on 020 7641 2000 or use our online street problem reporting service.

You will be asked to provide as much of the following information about the vehicle as possible:

  • Make and model (e.g. Ford Fiesta).
  • Colour.
  • Registration Number.
  • Exact Location (e.g. outside no.7 Droop Street, W10)
  • General condition of vehicle.
What happens next?

The details of the vehicle will be passed on to your local Street Environment Manager (for more information on our Street Environment Management Service, go to our 'SEM Service' page). They will inspect the vehicle and apply, if applicable, a notice of removal sticker. This notice informs the owner that they must remove or claim their vehicle or we will remove and destroy it. When the notice expires the SEM will return to check if the vehicle is still there. If it is, they inform our Abandoned Vehicles Officer, who will arrange for our vehicle removals contractor to pick up the vehicle and take it back to their pound, where it is usually destroyed.
