Westminster City Council urges residents to respond to Transport for London's consideration of the western extension of the Congestion Charging Zone.

Tfl respond to Westminster Council

July to August (15-08-2005)

TfL have responded to the City Council on three matters surrounding the existing congestion charging scheme and the proposed western extension. These are as follows:

• 15 July 2005 – Attention to matters concerning the operation of the existing central zone including matters surrounding resident’s discount and  ease of payment
• 3 August 2005 – Concerns about bus service provision if the western extension proposal goes ahead
• 3 August 2005 – Acknowledgement of the City Council’s formal submission of objection to the western extension proposal to TfL on 15 July 2005

Westminster City Council's response to TfL on the Mayor of London's plans to extend the congestion charging zone to the west

The City Council has replied to the Mayor of London's Consultation on the Western Extension of Congestion Charging that closed on 15 July 2005:

Westminster City Council is opposed to the Mayor of London's existing congestion charging scheme and strongly objects to his plans to extend the zone to the west. The City Council believes that an extended zone would further divide existing communities. Residents in the north would be priced out of using local businesses in the south, hitting those on low incomes the most.

The City Council has responded to various scheme variation orders as follows:

• Westminster City Council's stakeholder response to TfL on the Mayor of London's draft plans to extend the congestion charging zone to the west (34kb)

• Congestion Charging Variation No.5 - TfL's plans to increase the existing £5 charge to £8 (22kb)
