Avoid the congestion charging zone

While many drivers are expected to leave their cars at home and use public transport, traffic on the boundary roads may increase.

Motorists could change their route to avoid the congestion charging zone. Queues on the main roads into central London close to the zone boundary may also get longer especially during peak periods. All these factors could mean traffic tries to divert through local roads.

Car Parks

You can park outside the zone in a secure car park. Westminster City Council has two car parks outside the congestion charge zone and close to tube stations. They are:

  • Marble Arch / Park Lane - This car park is conveniently located on the congestion charging free corridor, near Marble Arch. The car park also offers a FREE Park & Ride service, great for the shops of Oxford and Bond Streets.
  • St John's Wood - This car park is close to Lords cricket ground and St John's Wood high street.

You can also pre-book most Westminster City Council car park spaces by calling 0870 013 450 and their helpful staff will take your details.

Buses

Public Transport improvements have been made to complement the congestion charging scheme. The majority of improvements have occurred on the buses with the aim to improve reliability, accessibility and security.

Part of the improvements is to provide extra capacity into the congestion charging zone during "rush hour".
