Praed Street
Under the Civic Streets Scheme, Westminster City Council is committed to a programme of regeneration along Praed Street district shopping centre. This programme has been shaped by an assessment of the street condition, review of the shopping centre performance, and by consideration of wider objectives such as the reduction of crime and disorder.
With support from the Paddington Business Improvement District, the Council will be carrying out a series of street environment improvements under the first phase of the wider programme of renewal. Work is anticipated to start early in August, 2008 and to be completed by the following December. These improvements include:
- new, improved energy-efficient lighting between Edgware Road and London Street
- wider pavements on the south side of Praed Street, between Sale Place and London Street (this will include the re-surfacing of private forecourts with the agreement of property owners)
- the removal of unnecessary street clutter and road signs in order to achieve a tidier street environment
More details of the above street improvement designs can be found here. A display will also be available for public viewing at the following times and dates:
- 3-7pm on Tuesday 22nd July on London Street (close to Norfolk Square)
- 3-7pm on Thursday 24th July on London Street (close to Norfolk Square)
- 3-7pm on Thursday 31st July on Praed Street by Unit 6 West End Quay approaching Edgware Road
Further improvements to locations such as London Street and Spring Street will follow over the coming years. These will be coordinated with other major developments planned in the Praed Street area, such as the proposed CrossRail project.
