Street Environment Improvements for the Prince of Wales Junction

Two distinct design styles were proposed for regenerating the Prince of Wales Junction. To gauge the public's views on these two different styles for the space, a series of displays and open meetings were held throughout late 2007. All interested parties were invited to discuss the design ideas and to comment on elements they did and did not like.

Analysis of the feedback revealed a clear preference (65%) for one design style overall. The elements (of the favoured design) that received overwhelming public support have now been identified and will be implemented between late August and December, 2008. These include:

  • new high quality paving
  • new functional lighting
  • planting more trees
  • providing power and water supplies to enable a market and events to be run on the space
  • extending the street environment improvements to the lower end of Fernhead Road and Walterton Road

A display outlining these improvements will be available for public viewing within No. 2 Fern Road
