Bank and Public Holidays
On Bank Holidays and Public Holidays, the guidelines for parking your vehicle may differ from the usual hours of control.
It is a common misconception that, because it is a Bank or Public Holiday, all parking is free of charge. While this may be the case for some parts of Westminster, there are differences that apply for certain types of parking bays in each zone (e.g. resident bays) and you should check before you park.
This section will be updated throughout the year with information on parking controls for Bank Holidays and Public Holidays, including Christmas and New Year.
Christmas and New Year Period 2011/12
The table below sets out the parking guidelines in Westminster for the Christmas and New Year period. Civil Enforcement Officers will be on-street throughout this period, except for Christmas Day.
| Date | Residents' Parking | Paid-For Parking Bays & Single Yellow Lines |
|---|---|---|
| Up to and including Friday 23 Dec | standard controls | standard controls |
| Christmas Eve (Saturday 24 Dec) | standard Saturday controls | standard Saturday controls |
| Christmas Day (Sunday 25 Dec) | no controls | no controls |
| Boxing Day (Monday 26 Dec) | Sunday controls apply | no controls |
| Bank Holiday Tuesday 27 Dec | Sunday controls apply | no controls |
| Wednesday 28 Dec to Friday 30 Dec | standard weekday controls | standard weekday controls |
| New Year's Eve (Saturday 31 Dec) | standard Saturday controls | standard Saturday controls |
| New Year's Day (Sunday 1 Jan 2012) | Sunday controls apply | no controls |
| Bank Holiday (Monday 2 Jan) | Sunday controls apply | no controls |
| Tuesday 3 Jan onwards | standard controls | standard controls |
Residents' Parking Only bays will continue to be enforced over the period, except on Christmas Day. Where the above table states 'Sunday controls apply' this means that each residents' bay's controls will be as if it were a standard Sunday. You should therefore check the times that these spaces are controlled on the signage within the bay. If you park in a residential parking space without displaying a valid resident's permit during controlled hours, you may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
Other permit holder only bays (i.e. disabled, doctor, hospital) are also enforced over this period. If you park in one of these bays without displaying the relevant permit, you may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
Double yellow lines will continue to be controlled at all times.
