Motorcycle Residents' Permits

'Virtual' Residents' Permits for Motorcycles

Since April 2010 we have been issuing 'virtual', electronic residents' permits for motorcycles as an alternative to traditional, physical paper permits. The electronic permits are administered through the City Council's Pay by Phone scheme.

Civil Enforcement Officers are aware which motorcycles have electronic residents' permits via their handheld devices. This information indicates the permit's zone and expiry details. There is no necessity for permit holders to display their physical, paper permit on their motorcycle, but may do so should they wish.

The residents' permit allows the bike to be parked in any residents' or shared-use bay in the permit holder's zone of residence or in any dedicated motorcycle bay city-wide without further charge.

Where a motorcycle is on the same permit as a car, the motorcycle will still be issued with an electronic permit but the paper permit will still need to be displayed in the car.

Electronic resident's permits for motorcycles can now be applied for, amended or renewed online.

If you are a permit holder and you wish to confirm the creation of an electronic residents' permit for your motorcycle, please call 020 7823 4567 with your vehicle registration number to hand.
