Pay & Display

Paying for parking using a debit card

Pay & display bays have a ticket machine serving a number of parking spaces. The price, hours of control and maximum stay period (usually 4 hours) are stated on the front of the machine. Upon payment the machine prints a ticket giving the expiry time of your parking session. This should be clearly displayed in your vehicle.

How much does it cost and when do I need to pay?

Parking prices and the times you need to pay vary according to which zone you are in. You can pay by credit or debit card, by phone, or use one of our parking cards.

What happens if the pay & display machine is out of order?

An instruction sticker will usually be displayed on the front of an out of order pay & display machine. This will advise you either to use an adjacent machine or pay by phone. You must make a payment by phone or from another machine in order to park in that bay.

If the machine goes out of order when you try to use it:

  • you can park in another bay and call Customer Services on 020 7823 4567 to report the fault and reclaim any lost money.
  • you can advise a Civil Enforcement Officer
  • you can buy a pay & display ticket from a nearby machine in the same zone. The zone letter (A-H) is displayed on the front of machines.

What happens if I exceed the maximum stay?

Maximum stay limits are needed where parking is in high demand and and regular turnover is required. If you exceed the maximum stay limit in any bay, you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
