Your resident permit
Residents of Westminster can apply for a resident parking permit that allows them to park in the zone in which they live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
About your permit
- There are 8 different resident parking zones (A-H). Your permit will display the parking zone in which you are entitled to park.
- It is important to note that the council cannot guarantee a parking space will always be available to you.
- You must ensure your permit is valid at all times and clearly displayed on the windscreen next to your tax disc. It is also your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is legally parked at all times.
- While you can only apply for a single permit, it can show a maximum of two vehicles. However, only one vehicle can be parked and displaying the permit on street at any one time.
Full details of parking controls in your zone can be requested by contacting us on 020 7823 4567.
Where you can park
Your resident parking permit entitles you to park in "Resident Permit Holder only" bays and "Shared use" bays within your zone:
Shared use bays - some resident bays are shared use bays. Vehicles displaying a valid pay and display ticket are allowed to park in the bay, as well as resident permit holders.
Resident Permit Holder only bays - these bays are only for resident permit holders.
Pay & Display and Pay by Phone Bays: Resident permit holders can park in these bays within their permit zone before 9.30am and after 5.30pm free of charge.
Additional parking in Camden, Kensington & Chelsea and Brent.
Where you cannot park - suspended bays
You may not park in resident parking bays which are suspended, otherwise you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) and your vehicle may be relocated.
We will not issue a PCN to resident permit holders who park in suspended bays in their own zone for the first two days of a suspension. However, we will issue warning notices and will try to contact you by phone to ask you to move your car. We will issue a PCN on the third day of a suspension as a last resort, and the vehicle may be relocated to a nearby paid-for parking space.
Please check carefully for the times when a suspension is in force. Where possible, street signs will give several days' advanced warning, but in emergencies, this may not be possible. Therefore, please ensure that you check the space where your vehicle is parked each morning before 8.30am or arrange for this to be done.
In the case of a large scale suspension of 30 or more resident parking spaces, alternative parking will be provided. One alternative parking space will be made available for resident permit holders for every five suspended spaces.
If you are going away, you can obtain information about planned suspensions by calling 020 7641 6850 (Mon-Fri 8am - 6pm).
