Applying for the first time

Apply Online

You can apply for a first time permit online for all vehicle types. After paying by card you will receive a temporary permit to print off and display on your vehicle. There is no need for motorcycle permit holders to display their physical, paper permit on their motorcycle. Where a motorcycle is on the same permit as a car, the motorcycle will still be issued with an electronic permit but the paper permit will still need to be displayed in the car.

A one year permit will then be sent to you in 3-5 working days. All you need is:

• Your address and vehicle details
• An email account
• Debit or Credit card to make payment
• Residency Proof - you will need to upload two residency proofs
• Vehicle Proof -  you will need to upload two vehicle proofs
• Scanner, camera or camera phone (at least 2 megapixles)
• A printer

If you do not have two address or vehicle proof we can issue you with a one month temporary permit if you can supply at least one address proof and one vehicle proof. You will need to submit the remaining proof within six weeks or your permit will be cancelled.

Your One Stop Express

If you do not have a printer, scanner or camera and/or need help to complete the application online, you can go to a Your One Stop Express Location where a library staff member will be able to assist you with the online application. All you need to bring with you is:

• Your address and vehicle details
• Debit or Credit card to make payment
• Residency Proof - you will need two residency proofs
• Vehicle Proof -  you will need two vehicle proofs

If you do not have two address or vehicle proof we can issue you with a one month temporary permit if you can supply at least one address proof and one vehicle proof. You will need to submit the remain proof within one month or your permit will be cancelled.
