Cyclist training courses
Westminster City Council works in partnership with Cycle Confident to provide a range of cycle training initiatives to all schools, children, adults and families.
The following courses are FREE to all those living, working or studying in Westminster:
Adult Individual Training
One-to-one training is available for anyone over 16. Whether you are a complete beginner looking to start cycling or an experienced cyclist wanting to brush up on your skills, don't wait - book a lesson with our experienced, professional and friendly instructors.
Group Level 1 Training
These sessions are aimed at giving trainees the basic skills required to ride on the roads.
Our instructors move progressively through Level 1 of the National Standards for cycle training. If you are a complete beginner you are welcome to come to these sessions. Bicycles and helmets are also provided for use so not having a bike is not an excuse for not learning!
School Group Courses
We offer the nationally recognised 'Bikeability' cyclist training scheme to all primary schools in the borough (www.bikeability.org.uk/). For Years 3 and 4, Level 1 Bikeability training is combined with a number of fun games. This is designed to teach the basic skills and knowledge required to ride a bicycle safely as well as get children excited about cycling.
Years 5 and 6 are offered Levels 1 and 2 training, a course of five two-hour sessions for up to 8 pupils held during school hours. The course is designed to teach all aspects of safer cycling, including the rules and responsibilities of riding on the road.
The following courses may incur a charge. Please click on the links or contact us for further details.
Bike Maintenance Lessons
Westminster City Council offers a basic bicycle maintenance course. The course costs £15 and covers wheel removal and replacement, puncture repair, brake adjustments and brake block replacement, gear adjustment and indexing aswell as cable and chain lubrication.
Dr Bike Sessions
Westminster City Council wants to ensure bicycles being used in the borough are safe to be ridden and fitted correctly. Dr Bike sessions allow us to do this. Experienced and trained cyclists check bikes and make minor adjustments in order to keep you safe on the road. These are not full bike services.
These sessions can be organised anywhere ranging from Railway Stations to local fairs and festivals. If you would like a Dr Bike at an event in Westminster, contact us.
For Organisations located in Westminster
Westminster City Council wants to help more of your staff get cycling. We can run group cyclist training sessions for staff, route planning afternoons, Dr Bike sessions or bike maintenance lessons. Sessions are tailor-made to fit your timetable. Contact us and we can work together to get more of your staff cycling confidently.
