Abandoned Vehicles

What is an Abandoned Vehicle?

We treat a vehicle as being abandoned if:

  • it is left on any land in the open air in such circumstances or for such a period that it may be reasonably assumed to be abandoned, or, if the vehicle had been brought to the piece of land for the purpose of abandonment
  • the investigating officer considers there to be key characteristics such as no road tax, no vehicle registration plates and the vehicle is in a general poor state of repair or there is waste inside the vehicle.
How do I report an Abandoned Vehicle?

Contact the Environmental Action Line on 020 7641 2000 or use our online street problem reporting service.

You will be asked to provide information about the vehicle:

  • Make, model and colour.
  • Registration number.
  • Exact location.
  • General condition of vehicle.
What happens next?

The details of the vehicle will be passed to a investigating officer. They will inspect the vehicle and assess whether it is abandoned, and if so arrange for its removal. Once removed the vehicle will be taken to the pound where it will held for a short time and then destroyed and recycled.
