City of Westminster

Westminster's position

Whilst the City Council remains opposed to the Mayor of London's congestion charging scheme, Westminster Officers are now working in co-operation with officials of Transport for London to try to ensure that the scheme is implemented with as few adverse effects on the City Council's residents and businesses as possible.

Full details of the City Council's objections to the congestion charging scheme are set out in the first publication below (item no.1) sent to Transport for London in October 2001 in response to TfL's consultation on the congestion charging scheme order.

A further response was sent to TfL in January 2002 in response to changes to the scheme order and can be viewed by downloading the second publication below.

The third publication is a briefing note sent to all councillors, which sets out the City Council's current position following the call for a Judicial Review which was unsuccessful.
