Westminster City Council's Equality Objectives

The Council’s first Single Equality Scheme covered the period 2010-2011.  As part of the development of this scheme an extensive consultation was conducted as to the equality objectives for the council.  These objectives have been slightly updated to reflect emerging priorities for the council and remain central to the running of the organisation.

These equality objectives will be updated every four years, however we will be reporting on these objectives annually and will amend and update the objectives accordingly to ensure they reflect the most up to date priorities, ambitions and aspirations of the authority.

The Council's eight equality objectives are:

  • Improve the educational attainment and future social well being of looked after children
  • Ensure that children with a statement for SEN, including children with disabilities continue to make progress in terms of their educational attainments and achievements
  • Ensure the personalisation of social care and the move to greater long term independence under the Adult Services Mandate is effective for different groups
  • Support young people, adults and vulnerable parents into employment, education and training
  • Safeguard vulnerable adults
  • Develop and implement a new Domestic Abuse strategy to improve the service offered to tackle Violence against Women and Girls in Westminster
  • Foster an inclusive Westminster community, specifically through an active engagement in sport and physical activity opportunities
  • Improve our credentials as an equal opportunities employer, through enhanced training and development and accessible workforce information

More information on the Council's equality objectives is available in the Action Plan below.
