Man Booker Prize
This prize was established in 1969 and "promotes the finest in fiction by rewarding the very best book of the year". There is also the Man Booker International Prize which takes place every other year, this was first awarded in 2005.
2011 winner for fiction
The sense of an ending by Julian Barnes. Philip Roth won the international prize.
Orange Prize for Fiction
Won this year by Téa Obreht for her debut novel The Tiger's Wife.
Celebrating women's fiction from around the world this prize was set up with the help of Orange in 1996 (originating from an concept founded a few years earlier) . There is a prize of £30,000 and an award called a "Bessie" for the winner.
Desmond Elliott Prize
This prize for new fiction was established in 2007 in memory of Desmond Elliott who wanted to "enrich the careers of new writers".

Roald Dahl Funny Prize
Organised by the Booktrust this prize was founded in 2008 and "aims to promote laughter and humour as a feel-good factor when reading, to draw attention to funny books as readable and enjoyable books and to reward authors and illustrators who write and illustrate books using humour." As with Roald Dahl's books they are expected to be picture books. The awards run in two categories, here are the winners...

Blue Peter book awards
The BBC's Blue Peter in conjunction with its Book Club runs a few different awards for children's books. The winners were chosen by a mixture of both adult and child judges.
