This new book group is for everyone interested in current affairs, politics and society. If you are drawn to books like The Spirit Level – why equality is better for everyone’ by Richard Wilkinson, ‘A Walk-on Part: diaries 1994-99’ by Chris Mullin, ‘Just Boris’ by Sonia Purnell, or ‘You can’t say that’ by Ken Livingstone, then this is the reading group for you. An opportunity for debate and airing views about contemporary ideas and people in the political arena, with like-minded (or not) readers.
It’s free, and all are welcome.
Open "Share a Book" Group
Tuesdays 10am to 11.30am
This group is free and open to all. There is currently no need to book in advance at all; just turn up.
Shared Reading is a way of enjoying books together by reading passages aloud with the chance to chat about what has been read over a cup of tea and a biscuit. These groups happen weekly but you don’t have to come every single week. There is a trained facilitator to start the reading and help everyone get what they want from the session, even if it is only to come along and enjoy being read to. No one has to read if they don’t want to and no one has to bring anything. Each week we read an extract from a book or a short story and a poem. The Groups are usually between one and two hours long with most groups lasting an hour and a half.
For more details, please call on 0207 641 1300 (ask to be put through to Church Street Library).
There are other “Share a Book” Groups at Maida Vale, Paddington, Queen’s Park and Victoria libraries
