Libraries bring the Internet alive for over 50s

If you are reading this, you’re probably not one the many people severely disadvantaged in today’s society by their inability to use the internet, but you may know someone who is. Organisations of all kinds including the media, national and local services, and businesses routinely direct the public to their websites for important information. Exclusion from this wealth of information and opportunity is now similar to illiteracy.

Libraries can play a vital role in helping to bridge this digital divide, and Westminster Libraries already have a strong record of holding IT courses and classes, particularly for people over 50.  You can direct your older relative or friend to us to find a course suitable and convenient for them.

We hold introduction to the internet sessions in several libraries for Westminster residents aged 50 and over, ideal for those who have never used computers before. These sessions take place weekly, and are low cost (£1.00 per hour) or free.  Most of the libraries also run weekly drop-in support sessions, for learners who want to exercise their new skills between courses.
