First Steps
If you are new to computers, First Steps will help you...
It will take you on a step-by-step journey, from using a mouse to typing a letter, and on to essential computer tasks such as file management (keeping your pictures, letters and emails where you can easily find them).
First Steps can help you to get the most out of the computer for leisure use, but it can also prepare you for more advanced courses like ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), which you might need to get a job or study online. [Read about the WAES courses available including ECDL]
At every stage there is a short test to make sure that you have understood the step-by-step lessons. It's all very friendly, and nobody will tell you off if you get anything wrong!
Please note that there are some adjustments to the computer which are mentioned in First Steps but which you cannot make on a library computer. Don't worry - just skip these bits and move on the the next stage.
When you start First Steps, you will be asked to choose a user name. This is so that, if you do not complete the course in one go, the programme will remember where you got to. Just choose something you will remember, or make a note of the user name you choose.
Ready to have a go? Then take your First Steps!
